The Business of a Fund Raising Foundation
A fund raising foundation can be a normal business or a
non-profit organization. There are some individuals who profit from fund
raising and, although this may appear in a bad light, it is also a way for a
large amount of donations to reach charities that would not normally receive
them.
How a Fund Raising Foundation Works
A fund raising foundation will have several departments all
working together to raise money and awareness for individual or several
charities. The first group of people will be your face-to-face fund raisers.
These are the people that you meet on the street that approach your for
donations. It is their job to inform you of the work of the charity for which
they are fund raising and also to try and get you to make a donation. They will
have forms which you can fill in with your contact and bank details and you
will be asked to sign a contract for them to set up a direct debit. If you are
not happy leaving all of these details to someone on the street you will be
asked only for your contact details and later someone else from the fund
raising foundation will be in touch to set up the direct debit of your
donation.
Once you have filled out these forms, they move to the next
department in the fund raising organization. Here these forms are sorted and
entered onto a central data base which checks that the contact and banking
details are correct. If there is anything missing these forms are then handed
to another department where you will be contacted for verification. There are
various programs now available that can be loaded onto computers for quick
verification that you have given them the correct banking details and which can
check that your postal details are correct too.
Once the forms have been verified they will be sorted for
invoicing where the fund raising organization will take their cut from the
donated money and forward the rest on to the charity. If there are any
discrepancies in your donation form, they will move to the phone department of
the organisation where the telephone fund raisers are based. It is their job,
just as the face to face fundraisers do, to call people and ask for donations.
They will also be checking details with people who have signed up ensuring that
those are correct. All of these departments work together to make sure that
your donations reach the intended charity.
